Six galleries will be managed as platforms for learning for children from birth to 12-years. Housed on the first floor of a 12,500 square foot repurposed historical building at Imperial Market, the mission of the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center – A Very Special Project of the Children’s Museum of Houston is to transform communities through innovative child-centered learning. Mascots in attendance will include Sugarland Skeeters’s Swatson, Ronald McDonald, PBS Kids’ Digit from Cyberchase and H-E-B’s H-E-Buddy. Special events and performances complete with confetti cannons are scheduled for the grand opening including a drumline, Cookie Joe’s fusion of classical, jazz and hip-hop dance moves, and the Ismaili Dance Ensemble’s traditional Indian dances. The event will culminate with Kids’ Committee members presenting the key to the City of Kidtropolis, the Discovery Center’s main attraction. Local Boy Scouts of America will present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert, seven mayors in Fort Bend County, along with city council members and elected officials will attend. representative Pete Olson, who will serve as emcee. Special guests include Nancy Olson, wife of U.S. And the first 500-children to arrive, will receive commemorative t-shirts!
